and Douglas Duck, I Think My Pacifier is Stuck
There’s something about the word “dill” that just makes you pucker up immediately.
And scrunch your nose.
And not even want to try something, just because it doesn’t have sugar or butter in it, right?
Don’t be that person.
Today’s blog post is for all those naysayers who think dill is just for pickles.
Or chips.
Or tuna salad.
But, I’m going to change your mind with this easy dip, that serves up well on your veggie tray or as a dip with your chips.
Listen to me very carefully, you can make this with fresh dill or dried, but the truth is, you make it with ingredients that you usually always have on hand.
Who doesn’t love that?
And I took the liberty of showing you a beautiful veggie presentation that is great for showers, parties or when company is coming over!
I am a problem solver, after all.
Let’s get to it today and figure out what we need. Trust me, and I know you do, this dip is delicious.
Scoop one cup of mayonnaise and one cup of sour cream into a bowl.
To that add your dry ingredients…one teaspoon each of dried parsley, dill weed and a heaping teaspoon of seasoned salt. Next, add one heaping tablespoon of dried minced onion.
Wait.
That’s it?
Yes, believe it or not I am capable of SUPER easy recipes.
Just mix this well and look how delicious this turned out.
But this blog post runs the risk of being the shortest thing I have EVER written in my life.
Readers, you know it’s true…I can get rather long winded and I’m kind of likely to tell a story or two…even if they have nothing to do with the blog post.
But how in the ding dong am I going to connect a story to dill dip?
I’m not, I tell you, I’m not.
That’s a lie. I’m going to tell you why I wrote Douglas Duck…but like I said, it has NOTHING to do with dill!
Rewind about 16 years to the place and time when my son, now 21, didn’t want to give up his NuNu.
Nope…Robert Scott loved his pacifier and didn’t mind going to school with it.
Even though he looked like a third grader.
What to do…what to do? We tried everything from bribery to begging.
But he wasn’t budging.
One day, he and I were driving home from my mom and dad’s house and we passed a pasture of cows.
So we pulled over.
And we rolled down the window.
And we threw those pacis right out the window, because the cows needed them more than my son, right?
Wrong.
That night, Scott and I were scouring the house and looking under the car seats like hungry people looking for a slice of bread.
But the day finally came and we were able to pry it out of his cute little hands…with a crow bar.
Anybody with me? For Samuel, it was his Linus blanket. For Angel Grace, it was her sippy cup.
I’m not sure how we got them raised without scaring my children, but somehow we did it.
And as a result of that silly little story, we now have Douglas Duck…and my son LOVES when I tell this story…but hey, I’m not the one who used to hide my NuNus in the laundry room.
You know, for back-up. Because you never know when you might need one, or twelve.
Just like you don’t know when you might need this veggie tray I’m going to show you how to build.
I’m not sure how I jumped from a book about a duck and his pacifier straight back to the recipe…I think I’m just good that way.
And of course, if you already present your dips in purple cabbages, you are welcome to scroll on down to the bottom and get the recipe.
Otherwise, let’s start with a purple cabbage.
I love this color! Start by slicing the bottom of the cabbage so it will sit flat on your tray.
Next, put on your wrestling clothes because it might feel like you have somewhat been in a WWE match once you get this thing scooped out!
Cut the top of your cabbage around the top and start pulling the layers off.
Next, take a spoon and start little by little scooping the cabbage out, until you get nearly to the bottom.
So easy and the cabbage color really pops your vegetable tray.
For my tray, I used carrots, cucumbers, snow peas and broccoli. The different colored peppers would also look beautiful. Or maybe some cauliflower or squash…just use your favorites.
Be prepared to wow your friends and family…because you know, there’s nothing more spectacular than a beautifully presented veggie tray.
Well, except maybe apple pie.
