and we are saying it with a Chocolate Chip Pound Cake
Nothing says love like chocolate.
Right?
Well, that’s not true, chocolate is the love language for everything, even when it’s not Valentine’s Day.
I know I always say I am bringing you my family favorites, but we cook a lot readers….hence, we have A LOT of family favorites.
Except this family favorite didn’t start in my kitchen, it started in my sister-in-love, Sherry’s, kitchen.
She’s a really good cook…like really good.
It’s true…I have good cooks all around me.
And now, our children are becoming good cooks, too.
I love being in the kitchen with Robert Scott…he’s fun and adventurous and doesn’t mind throwing in a little of this or a little of that.
Makes me proud.
And he loves today’s recipe, Chocolate Chip Pound Cake, which was originally made by his Aunt Sherry.
And she got it out of the Celebrations on the Bayou cookbook which is published by our local Junior League.
I’ll never forget my son’s reaction after eating this pound cake for the first time, “Mom, why in the world have you never made this before? I could eat it every day.”
That’s a lot of pound cake.
Now, everyone in my tribe makes it for their family.
It’s that good.
So, let’s get our pan prepared with Baker’s Joy…because you know it brings me a lot joy when my cakes don’t stick…and this is the ticket.
Your cakes will come out with ease.
Every.Single.Time.
Oh, and preheat your oven to 325.
Let’s get started and we will do that with a yellow cake mix, a small box of chocolate pudding and ½ cup of sugar.
Turn your mixer on and mix well.
Next add ¾ cup of water and ¾ cup of cooking oil.
I didn’t say this was low fat.
To this, slightly beat 4 eggs in a separate bowl and add to the mixture. Let it all get married real well.
To this mixture add one cup of sour cream. I’m telling you, this is the secret weapon in this cake…it gives it a moist, light texture and you cannot leave it out.
Finally, fold in ½ cup of chocolate chips.
Pour into your greased pan and pop in your oven.
Bake 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes back clean.
I usually cool about 15 minutes on a wire rack, but sometimes I just dump it straight onto the cake plate.
Please tell me you put your cakes on a cake plate.
Otherwise, we might not can be friends.
This one was compliments of my mom…it was an actual wedding gift!
She just thought I would use it more so she gave it to me.
People in your tribe just get you.
And people in your tribe will be happy for you to make this cake.
So get in out of the snowstorm and get into the kitchen.
What else do we have to do?
