even though she got the recipe from her patient

I’m back! And in full swing here at Alphabet Mom.

Thanks for staying with me and for referring me to your family and friends.

Because I know you have done that, right?

If not, you are sending them a text message as we speak.

Right? Because the information you glean from this blog community is way too valuable to keep all to yourself.

Thanks. It’s how I will grow my community and I consider my readers/email subscribers to be my most valuable assets.

Speaking of assets…anybody ready for the 2019 Declutter Challenge? Starting Labor Day weekend?

How appropriate that I am going to make you work on Labor Day.

I am pretty smart.

Here’s how it will work. It’s an 8-Day Challenge.

That’s right…Sunday to Sunday. You with me?

You should be, because if you are like me…

SOS SOS SOS SOS SOS

And me…

I Hope To GOODNESS Sam Bourland Doesn’t Read My Blog And See This MESS Because My Grade Would Be an F!

And me again…

Does Someone Need To Borrow a Wedding Dress? Popcorn Machine? Anybody?

Your life could stand a little “decluttering.”

So be watching on social media for all the details.

Wait.

Let’s do the details now. Basically, we will start together, because we are birds of a feather, and Sunday, September 1st we will kick off the Declutter Challenge.

Every day I will post a list of areas to declutter in your life and we will spend some time together cleaning out.

In case you have a closet that looks like this.

I Did Not Photoshop This…Sadly

We will keep each other motivated and I will encourage you to post before and after pics.

Any Sanford and Sons out there with me? Post in the comments below if you plan to start.

It will be so fun! I mean, what’s not exciting about cleaning out, right?

And for those of you who are already neat, tidy and organized, I’m sure you will be looking at the rest of us like we have a unicorn head.

So be watching! It’s coming and your house and your life and your car and your purse and your desk…all will be DECLUTTERED in just 8 days!

It’s a Christmas miracle.

Speaking of Christmas, anybody decorating yet? That’s a joke, even though I passed a house near my subdivision the other night and they already have Christmas lights up.

Or did they ever take them down? Maybe they are actually the SMART ones.

I can’t believe the holidays are upon us. Yes, they are closing in on us every day and we have got to get ourselves ready.

If you follow me…I will be helping make your life simpler as much as I can, so you can enjoy your family and friends as much as possible.

Wait. That doesn’t mean I’m coming to your house to decorate, cook and wrap your presents.

But other than that…I’ll be helping.

Speaking of helping, my friend Heather Finley helped me out years ago by sharing “her” bread pudding recipe with me.

Thanks, Heidi.

Here’s what happened. Heidi made it for us for some party or cook-out we had and we all went crazy for it and treated her like she was the Barefoot Contessa.

She finally had to fess up that one of her “little” patients had given her the recipe.

And thank the good Lord for it!

Because this bread pudding is amazing and it has a super-secret, super powerful ingredient.

Hamburger buns.

Wait.

If I tell you it is Easter, dye your eggs.

And I’m telling you we are going to use hamburger buns.

A funny story…I love to experiment in the kitchen…in case you haven’t noticed. And well, Scott and I were at Sammy’s Restaurant in Baton Rouge for one of Robert Scott’s baseball tournaments.

Anybody know where this is going?

They have a dessert, White Chocolate Blueberry Bread Pudding…

I hope they have it in heaven.

Of course, as I’m “sharing” it with Scott, I’m thinking, I think I can tweak my bread pudding recipe, well, actually Heather’s bread pudding recipe, well, actually her patient’s recipe, and make this.

So, I came home and started experimenting. I couldn’t wait to try it on my family, you know, the guinea pigs.

And they looked at me like I had a unicorn head (a frequent look I get).

“Why would you change the recipe? Why would you mess with perfection?”

Huh?

So, there you have it readers, straight out of the mouths of my test kitchen guinea pigs…

…this bread pudding is perfection.

Perfection

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

So here’s what we are going to do. Incidentally, this is so easy, which is becoming a common thread among my recipes, I think.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 Pyrex dish with non-stick cooking spray and tear 2 bags of hamburger buns into small, bite-size pieces.

Ignoring My Manicure…Tear Your Buns Into Bite Size Pieces

By the way, I have gotten some feedback asking if I will be having any gluten-free recipes. Quite a bit of feedback, actually.

And, I forgot to note on my sheet pan fajitas recipe that it was actually gluten-free.

So you are hearing it here first.

And guess what, I have made this bread pudding recipe gluten-free by using gluten-free hamburger buns. My sister and sister-in-law will tell you that you can’t taste the difference!

Next, melt two sticks of butter on low heat and add 2 cups of milk.

Add 2 Cups of Milk to 2 Sticks of Melted Butter

Add 1 cup of sugar.

Beat 3 eggs and add to the butter mixture.

Whisk Your Three Eggs In

Finally, add 2 tablespoons of vanilla and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon to your mixture.

I whisk this very well to get rid of any clumps from the cinnamon.

Helpful hint: Don’t get your milk and butter mixture too hot or you will scramble your eggs. Yikes!

Carefully pour your mixture over the hamburger buns and bake for 35-40 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

While the buns are baking (I could say something but I won’t), we are going to make the sauce.

This sauce! It’s like putting a bejeweled crown on Miss America.

How do you like that analogy? I thought that up just as I was typing.

I use the same saucepot and melt another stick of butter (I know my dieting tribe will LOVE this recipe), a can of condensed milk, one egg yolk (beaten) and a cup of sugar.

Sauce = 1 Stick of Butter, 1 Cup of Sugar, 1 Can Condensed Mile & 1 Egg Yolk

Does everyone know how to separate an egg? Melissa, you need me to show you?

Of course she does, so for those of you in Melissa’s cooking classification, simply crack your egg over a bowl, and slowly let your egg white drip out of the egg.

Crack Your Egg and Slowly Allow the Egg White to Seep Out

Go back and forth with it until all the white is out and you are left with just your yolk.

Now, let’s melt the sauce, stirring constantly, until it begins to boil and then remove from heat.

Stir Constantly About 2-3 Minutes Until Mixture Starts to Boil

Slowly pour over your buns as soon as you take them out of the oven.

Slowly Pour Mixture Over your Buns

And just like that, you are ready TO GO!

In a word…perfection.

We are officially renaming it “Heather’s Patient’s Bread Pudding.”

We Are Going to Get On Food Network For This One…And It All Started with Hamburger Buns

  1. I will also try cream of coconut for the condensed milk. Vanilla Almond Milk for regular milk. Canola oil or Earthen Butter for regular butter. I think those changes will also make it dairy free. Cannot wait to try it at a tailgate! ~K
