Heather's Bread Pudding

Everyone loves a good bread pudding and this one will not disappoint. Who would have thought hamburger buns could make such an impression?

Ingredients

  • 2 pkgs hamburger buns
  • 3 sticks butter 2 for the pudding, 1 for the sauce
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups sugar 1 for the pudding, 1 for the sauce
  • 3 eggs slightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 9x13 Pyrex dish with non-stick spray.
  • Melt 2 of the sticks of butter over low heat. Add milk, sugar, 3 whole eggs, cinnamon and vanilla. Whisk well until melted.
  • While this is melting, tear the two packages of hamburger buns into bite size pieces.
  • Pour the mixture over the hamburger buns and bake for 35-40 minutes until eggs are set.
  • While this mixture is baking, separate an egg and reserve the egg yolk.
  • Melt the 3rd stick of butter, 1 cup of sugar and the condensed milk over low heat, stirring constantly with a whisk.
  • Add egg yolk and bring to a soft boil, which takes about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Slowly pour over buns as soon as you take them out of the oven.
